WHO WE ARE
We are a group of dedicated volunteers providing services and support to members of the community and their families and friends who are affected by cancer. A registered charity, we have been in operation since 2002, are self-funded and do not receive any financial assistance from the Government or Cancer Council SA. We rely entirely on donations from the community, fundraising events and the support of local business, Service and Sporting Clubs.

Currently the Foundation maintains an office which is staffed by dedicated volunteers from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday at Carrickalinga House in Victor Harbor. Members of the community are welcome to “drop in” for information or even just to sit down and have a cuppa. You can also access our support Groups where you will find other local cancer sufferers who are caring and happy to listen to any concerns you are experiencing. Our Men’s and Women’s Groups hold separate monthly meetings and various activities.
In addition, we also offer a wig loan service and a Hospital Transport Service which is affectionately known as the “Cancer Car”. The transport service operates daily travelling between towns on the South Coast to hospitals and other treatment centres in Adelaide and Noarlunga.

"Cancer Car" History

The transport service was started by a group of locals who saw firsthand, the need for a dedicated transport service for South Coast community members who needed to access cancer treatment services in Adelaide. The transport service began with just one vehicle supported by a group of willing volunteers driving, maintaining the vehicle and raising much needed funds to enable the service and the Foundation as a whole to flourish.
In the past 20+ years the transport service has developed into an essential community service and our vehicle fleet has grown to 4 vehicles, 2 based at Victor Harbor, 1 at Port Elliot and 1 at Goolwa. This has given us the ability to increase the number of hospitals and treatment centres and clinics that we are able to transport patients to.
None of this would have been possible without the support of our wonderful volunteers, sponsors and community supporters.
We are truly grateful to our sponsors and community supporters for raising the funds to keep our cars on the road and to our drivers who even during covid made themselves available to ensure that patients were still able to get to their lifesaving treatments.
